A reborn doll is a collectors doll which both looks and feels like a real baby. This is due to the long reborning process consisting of many layers of painting and a variety of top quality weighting materials which result in the look and feel of a realistic baby complete with the flop factor of a newborn baby.
Doll sculpts can be bought consisting of a head, arms & legs or alternatively a doll can be bought, dismantled and stripped of its factory paint. Next the parts are given a bath in warm soapy water (personally i like to use johnsons baby bath) and left to dry overnight. When dry painting can begin layer upon layer of thin paint is applied to achieve a "living" skintone complete with undertones, subtle veining & other fine details. When the painting is complete the doll is given eyelashes & hair this is done by rooting mohair one or two strands at a time and can take many, many hours. Next a variety of different weighting materials are used ranging from Glass granules to a product called "baby fat" to give the realistic baby weight and feel.
